Hometown Heroes
Making a Big Difference

A grieving father, a former stay-at-home mother of three and a
kindhearted nurse—these are three of the selfless individuals who
work tirelessly on behalf of the community. This year, Oakland
Magazine is recognizing five unsung heroes for their hard work and
dedication, citizens who continuously prove that one person truly
can make a difference in the lives of others.

Working Poor Families to Receive Holiday Food and Toys for the
Children! Program Kicks off in November 2007
San Leandro, CA—Davis Street Family Resource Center’s begins its
Annual Holiday Food and Gift Basket Program on November 5th. Join
Davis Street for its 37th year of helping families and children
during the holiday season. Davis St. Family Resource Center is the
only-multi-purpose center in central Alameda County. Each year they
serve over 10,000 families. The holiday basket serves close to 1500
families and over 3000 children each year.

November is: “We Give Thanks Month”
A benefit for the Davis Street Family Resource Center
Join us for our annual “We Give Thanks” month at Horatio’s
Restaurant in the San Leandro Marina. Horatio’s has started their
annual campaign to help families and children during the holiday
season. Dine at Horatio’s during the month of November and for every
identified menu entrée sold $1.00 will be donated to Davis Street
Family Resource Center.

Leandro—It was no surprise to see men in tuxedos and women in long
evening gowns at the 5th annual “Opera Night at Paradiso”
on Bancroft Street in San Leandro on a breezy evening in May.
