Executive Director: Rose Padilla Johnson
Rose Padilla Johnson has been with the agency for the past 13 years as its executive director. She has grown the agency from a $380,000 organization to today’s 6.7 million dollar agency. The growth has been intentional and focused on increasing the comprehensiveness of services provided.
Presently the center provides quality affordable childcare to over 1000 children-both in our licensed centers and through voucher subsidies, food, clothing and miscellaneous household items to nearly 500 people each month, free acute medical care and physical therapy to approximately 50 uninsured and underinsured individuals each week, job training/placement services to over 300 people moving from welfare to work, economic literacy and other life skills workshop and a full range of mental health services to over 1500 people each year, with a particular focus on providing program designed to reduce youth related violence in our community. We have added support services that include free income tax preparation assistance focusing on the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Childcare Tax Credit, utility assistance and together with the Alameda County Fire Department provide a Holiday Basket of food and toys to over 1000 needy families.

Rose has transformed Davis Street into one of the most comprehensive non-profit providers of human services in the Greater San Leandro area. In October 2002 she achieved her personal goal of creating the Davis Street Family Resource Center. The new site houses all the agencies programs in one location, eliminating the transportation obstacles folks face when needing assistance.

In addition to her work at Davis Street, Rose is Vice President of Community, Education and Workforce Development Division of the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors; Past Chair and member of the Alameda County Childcare Local Planning Council; Co- Administrator of the RotaCare Free Clinic; and President Elect-of the San Leandro Rotary Club. She is a member of various associations that promote the health and well being of children and their families. She is often asked to present her ideas for developing program to help those with the most need and least access
